Bridal Garters have withstood the test of time and have been touted as an indispensable wedding item. Sheila Williams explains how garters dating back to the 18 ^th century were “heavily embroidered with names, dates, and even phrases.” In fact, before elastic was incorporated into garters, Carl Benz, the inventor of the automobile, had to use his wife’s garter to insulate a wire when his car broke down. Fortunately, both wires and garters have leapt into the modern era where they can be used for their intended purposes!
